Robust multitasking capabilities ensure that a computing platform featuring the dual-core Intel Core 2 Duo processor won't slow down, even when running multiple software applications simultaneously.
Intel® Coreâ¢2 Duo Processor Product Highlight Combining Intel's highly efficient 45nm manufacturing technology and Intel® Core⢠microarchitecture, the Intel Core 2 Duo processor delivers robust performance for both home and business software applications. With two complete computing "brains" on one physical processor, this dual-core processor delivers more performance with greater energy efficiency than older single-core processors. For PC users, this means doing more simultaneously with less slowdown and hesitation. Intel Technology 45nm Hafnium-Based Architecture. Thanks to a naturally occurring element called Hafnium, Intel engineers were able to shrink the size of new Intel processors and pack more computing technology into less space. The result is improved performance with less energy wastage.
Intel® Wide Dynamic Execution. Enables the delivery of more instructions per clock cycle for shorter execution times and improved energy efficiencyâaccomplish more simultaneously and with greater efficiency.
Intel® Intelligent Power Capability. Turning off portions of the processor when they aren't being used improves overall energy efficiency and reduces heat production, resulting in a quieter, more energy efficient system.
Intel® Smart Memory Access. Increasing available data bandwidth means more multitasking with less slowdownârun more demanding applications simultaneously and accomplish more in less time.
Intel® Advanced Smart Cache. Placing data closer to the processing cores improves platform responsiveness and performance with a wide range of applications.
Intel® Advanced Digital Media Boost. Accelerates performance with a wide range of applications, including video, gaming, speech and image, photo processing, encryption, financial, engineering and scientific applications.
Intel® HD Boost. Available only on the latest 45nm Intel processors, this revolutionary technology takes Intel® Advanced Digital Media Boost and improves it even further, enabling significant gains on the latest SSE4 instruction set. SSE4-optimized applications, such as video editing and encoding in high-definition resolution will see additional performance improvements
Performance for Multitasking With two powerful and highly efficient processing cores, the Intel Core 2 Duo processor frees you to run multiple software applications at the same time without compromising performance or responsiveness. Everything including email, downloading, online shopping, and video editing can be done simultaneously and with greater efficiency. No longer is it necessary to choose between work and play.
Energy Efficiency When working or playing hard, you want to keep distractions to a minimum. Thanks to Intel's exclusive 45nm technology, the Intel Core 2 Duo processor runs very efficientlyâconsuming less energy and producing less heat then previous-generation processors. Since desktop PCs featuring the Intel Core 2 Duo processor run cooler, they require less cooling, meaning fewer fans and a quieter computing experience. And with energy-saving features that shut down portions of the processor when they are not in use, the Intel Core 2 Duo processor is easier on your energy bill and the environment.
Product Description The Intel Core 2 Duo processors are built in several of the world's most advanced, high-volume output manufacturing facilities using Intel's leading silicon process technology. The processor family is based on the revolutionary Intel Core microarchitecture, designed to provide powerful yet energy-efficient performance. With the power of dual cores, or computing engines, the processors can manage numerous tasks faster. They also can operate more smoothly when multiple applications are running, such as writing e-mails while downloading music or videos and conducting a virus scan. The Intel Core 2 Duo desktop processor delivers revolutionary dual-core performance and breakthrough processor energy efficiency. With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, Intel Smart Memory Access, Intel Advanced Smart Cache and Intel Digital Media Boost, this new processor is designed to do more in less time. Additional features to support enhanced security, virtualization, and 64-bit computing make the Intel Core 2 Duo the most impressive new processor developed for an increasingly multimedia-centered, high-definition world. Design changes in the Intel Core 2 Duo processors that improve performance also increase processor energy efficiency by operating at lower frequencies that require less power to run. Intel Intelligent Power Capability optimizes energy usage of the processor cores by turning on computing functions only when needed. This more energy-efficient processor supports smaller, more capable, and quieter desktop PC to conserve critical power resources.

Bang for the Buck Champ! May 21, 2008 W. Ignacio (New Jersey United States) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
This is the best sub 200 chip right now bar none. As the others have mentioned , it does 4 GHZ overclocked easy. Runs very cool . Its an excellent value !!
Who needs quad core? August 16, 2008 Nathan Beauchamp (Oak Park, IL USA) 14 out of 16 found this review helpful
I was undecided between the e8400 and the Q6600 until after doing some research, I learned that almost no programs take advantage of a quad core right now, and are unlikely to in the near future. With the rate processor technology changes these days, getting a quad core now doesn't make a lot of sense. By the time quad cores are the norm, there will be something way better than what's on the market now. Dual core is sufficient for 99.9 of all programs on the market!
I was able to overclock this processor to 3.8ghz using a Zalman CPU cooler at 48C idle and 56C under load. I have a Asus p5k-e motherboard, which overclocks really, really well.
Pros:
Tremendous speed for the price
Extreme overclocking potential
Intel reliability
Cons:
Pretty poor stock cooler. Get yourself an aftermarket cooler if you plan to do any overclocking.
Excellent value for a mid-range budget machine June 29, 2009 James Lin (Los Angeles, CA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is an excellent CPU for the price if you don't need a quad-core setup. My computer is mostly use for work and gaming, and E8400 has been able to handle everything that I've thrown at it.
The quick specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.0GHz
2GB DDR2 800MHz
Western Digital WD6400AAKS 640GB HDD
Radeon 4770 512MB
24" LG monitor (1920x1200)
Work:
I'm a web developer so my more CPU intense work applications are Photoshop CS and the Flex SDK (Eclipse IDE). The E8400 is more than enough to handle these applications along with several different browsers (IE, FF, Safari, etc.) all opened at the same time.
Gaming:
I mostly play RPGs and strategy games on my computer. Lately, I've been playing Fallout 3 and Mass Effect, both of which required fairly powerful systems when they were first released for PC. My E8400, 2GB of RAM, and 4770 512MB are able to handle both of these games smooth with high quality settings at 1920x1200.
Pros:
- Fast and dual core.
- 45nm process means that it produces very little heat.
- Relatively inexpensive.
- Overclocks well.
Cons:
- No real cons for the processor itself, but some older Core 2 Duo motherboards only support the 65nm process Core 2 Duos, which are the E6xxx and E4xxx series. Before you buy an E8xxx series processor, make sure that your motherboard supports it first. You can find a chipset compatibility chart if you search the web for "List of Intel Chipsets".
Fantastic processor for my new system July 9, 2008 Jeff (Boston, MA USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Wow, a huge leap forward from my Pentium 4 3.0GHz. I put it in a new Shuttle SG31G2S barebones system with 2GB of RAM. Speed demon. Highly recommended. Encodes video incredibly fast. Runs very cool.
I considered a more expensive Quad Core, but not sure I'd get any additional benefit since most applications can't really take advantage of it. I'm more than pleased with my choice.
Excellent CPU March 1, 2009 C. Huff 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This CPU ran well out of the box, I encountered no problems with installation of the cpu. The included fan/heat sink is difficult to install, but worth the effort - be patient. Win XP with Svc Pack 3 runs smoothly.
